Please see below for an important message about DuPont State Forest from the NC Forest Service.
Like many agencies across the state, the North Carolina Forest Service is preparing to begin a phased reopening for DuPont State Recreational Forest that is in accordance with Executive Order 138. While many national, state and local parks plan to reopen to the public for limited access beginning May 9, DuPont State Recreational Forest will NOT reopen to the public beginning May 9. NCFS officials ARE taking necessary precautions and action to reopen DuPont to the public soon. The extent of access to be provided and a timeline for reopening are still being determined to ensure a safe and smooth process for staff, visitors and volunteers. For updates about closure status and the reopening of DuPont State Recreational Forest, stay tuned into our NCFS social media channels and website.
While DuPont remains temporarily closed and unavailable to the public, other public lands in Western North Carolina may be reopening for limited public access beginning May 9. We encourage the public to check agency websites and to call the office of the place you plan to visit BEFORE visiting any public land. For phased reopening to be successful for public lands across our state, visitors must be good stewards and good neighbors. Take care of public lands and each other. Be prepared, adjust expectations, stay local and continue complying with CDC recommendations and guidelines.
Help support us in preserving DuPont Forest for all to enjoy.
