REASONOVER CREEK TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS / CLOSURES

Reasonover Creek Trail will be closed between Conservation Road and Turkey Knob Trail for planned trail work until further notice. Please plan your route accordingly and respect all trail closures.

The Reasonover Creek Trail at DuPont State Recreational Forest (DSRF) is undergoing improvements that will result in temporary trail closures. Improvements to the 3.5-mile-long trail are part of the DSRF Master Recreation Plan that will accommodate a high level of recreational use while improving environmental sustainability, increasing longevity, reducing erosion and protecting the water quality of nearby streams.

DSRF officials anticipate work to begin Monday, June 9 with completion expected by December 2025. The work will be supervised by DSRF staff and will be completed in stages to limit the number of trail closures along Reasonover Creek Trail. Visitors are asked to respect all trail closures while visiting the forest.

DUPONT STATE RECREATIONAL FOREST OPENED:

DuPont State Recreational Forest (DSRF) reopened Friday, Nov. 1, allowing visitors to enjoy recreational opportunities with a number of trail closures still in place in 2025.

Despite significant recovery efforts, several forest features continue to remain closed and it’s imperative that visitors adhere to all closures. Using a closed trail is an enforceable offense under the N.C. Administrative Code, which provides regulation for North Carolina state forests.

Grassy Creek Bridge remains closed, significantly impacting visitors entering DSRF from the Lake Imaging or the Guion Farm access areas. The bridge closure resulted in the closure of Buck Forest Road from its intersections with Lake Imaging Road and Conservation Road. Visitors who have previously used this section of Buck Forest Road are advised to plan alternative routes.

Visitors should expect to use caution as they may encounter changes to trail conditions such as increased erosion, uneven trail surfaces and narrowed trail treads where tree damage has occurred. While DSRF staff have mitigated as many hazards as possible. Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time for their visit and consult the kiosk and map for trail updates and alternative routes.
