Your gift on Giving Tuesday protects DuPont State Recreational Forest by investing in…
- Advocacy efforts to create a Master Trails Plan to address issues like parking, visitation, user conflict, new properties and environment protections.
- Our volunteer Trail Crew who do back-breaking work to keep our trails awesome. In 2020, our Crew has put in over 790 hours into our trails. In 2021, we want to do more. We are growing our Trail Crew, offering training to up-and-coming trail bosses, and taking on more responsibility for trail maintenance.
- Our volunteer Trash Bash Crew. For nearly 20 years, the Trash Bash Crew has kept the scene green, hauling bags upon bags of trash out of the Forest. In 2020’s unprecedented crowds, they met weekly during the summer to clean up the waterfall corridor, parking lots, and roadsides.
- Our Share the Trails Campaign, coming your way in 2021. With a multi-use, multi-direction trail system and one million visitors each year, user conflict has become a major challenge for both the NC Forest Service and those of us who frequent the trails in DuPont. We welcome the visitors and acknowledge the vital role tourism plays in our local economy. We are building a campaign to teach everyone how to be good guests in the Forest and share the trails. We believe a little education can go a long way to help protect the Forest and enhance recreation for everyone.
